Why should we care about this trend as educators? Because it is yet another event which underscores the rapidly changing nature of our society due to technology. We may approve of these changes or hate these changes, but we have to deal with them as educators since there is no turning back the clock.
What will newspapers look like in the future?
Here is one projection.
No doubt technology is changing the way we gather information. Although few of our students may be news junkies, the way they are gathering information is far different than how we accessed news about our world. Instead of fighting this trend and bemoaning the changes in the press from when we were growing up, perhaps we should be teaching our students how to maximize available tools to access the current information they seek using services such as
Google News and
RSS feeds.
