I'm not concerned that students are using new technologies. There are
so many new tools to embrace that have value when used appropriately.
My concern is that so many students are embracing these tools without
the moral, ethical, and Christian foundation necessary to use these
tools in building up God's Kingdom rather tearing it down.
One
only needs to spend a few minutes on My Space to see this phenomenon.
There is nothing inherently wrong with social networking sites.
However, while there might be some worthwhile content there, that
content is so obscured by that which is not God-pleasing that it is
disheartening for me to spend more than a few minutes there.
My
students are probably tired of hearing me use the phrase "God-pleasing
computer use." I don't care, as long as they remember this when faced
with the challenges of navigating life in this technological age in a
way that brings glory to God.
