While I still enjoy the morning paper, I know that there are news gathering alternatives, and I know how to access them via the Internet. However, I am becoming increasingly concerned that Lutheran schools are being increasingly seen as irrelevant. Many schools are struggling with their budgets and enrollment. A number have closed in the past year, and many others are in danger of shutting their doors. If these schools close their doors, where will these children hear about Jesus each day? While I can find other news sources, children don't always have such readily available sources for learning about Jesus on a daily basis, especially in the setting of public schools.
For that reason alone, Lutheran schools MUST remain relevant to the culture and society in the 21st century. They MUST be places of excellence with robust technology resources for students and families. We MUST all work TOGETHER to build Lutheran education so that as many students as possible have the opportunity to learn about Jesus EVERY day.
How can Lutheran schools remain relevant for the 21st century? How can we all better reach out to our communities and to our world? I'm interested in your thoughts and ideas on this subject. I invite you to share your thoughts and ideas as a comment to this post.
