I just got back from visiting someone in the hospital. I have seen some very tough things in hospitals: people in pain, uncertain futures, and, in a couple of cases, I was present with someone during the last moments of their lives. Hospitals can be tough places.

Today, the hospital was a grace place. I left there so excited that I just had to share it with someone. I visited a woman who had come through surgery well and had a good medical report. More importantly, she was simply full of the joy of Christ. She was blessed and knew it and wanted everyone else to know it.

I left her bedside with a renewed energy. I was blessed by our few moments together. I don’t know what comfort or hope that I gave, but I know I received an abundance of God’s grace.

God has a funny way of doing the unexpected. Just when we think that we’ve figured Him out, He has another surprise. You go into a hospital expecting to offer some consolation to someone and SURPRISE, you walk out built up in your faith.

God bless you with His surprises today and this weekend.

NOTE: I’ve received a number of comments and a few puns about the pig in church story. I did meet the owner of the pig on Tuesday morning. It seems the little oiker got again and she was searching for her pet on the street behind the church. So, if it makes you feel better, the pig is pet not future pork.
