Do you know anyone with a bad attitude? I call myself a “recovering middle school teacher.” I have seen more than a few bad attitudes. You probably have too.
As we approach Holy Week, it is amazing to see how Jesus was surrounded by so many bad attitudes. The crowd who cheered Him had a fickle attitude. The Jewish Leaders who opposed Him had a self-serving attitude. Pilate had a self-preserving attitude.
Somehow, Jesus didn’t allow the bad attitudes around Him to influence His attitude. Christ’s attitude remained that of a humble servant. He rode into Jerusalem in humility and He carried His cross out of that same city with the same humility. His attitude now means everything to us. Christ’s attitude of a servant means that we have salvation.
The Epistle lesson we will use at Shepherd of the Coast this Sunday is Philippians 2:5-11. The God’s Word translation has verse 5 this way: “Have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.” As we watch Jesus in action, our attitude is transformed.
We see in the events of Holy Week pure Gospel – God’s unmitigated grace and love for us. That Gospel gives us a new attitude. It molds our attitude to the image of Christ’s attitude.
Have a great week with a great attitude.
