Thursday Links List -Thursday, March 29, 2007
By David Black :: 312 Views :: 1 Comments :: :: Technology, Internet
Here is a links list for Thursday:

  • History teachers will appreciate the Speaking of History podcast. The creator is so prolific that it is difficult for me to keep up with all the excellent content, but don't let that stop you from sampling his work, especially 8th grade history teachers out there.
  • Rob J. sent me this link to a YouTube video on cyberbullying. Check it out. Would you use this with your students? Thanks for sending this along, Rob!
  • A couple months ago I wrote about Citizendium, a wiki project designed to have much greater scholarly control (and thereby accuracy -- at least that is what its creators hope) than Wikipedia. The project is now in beta form. You can check it out by clicking here. Will this project be successful? We'll continue to watch.
  • Do you want to keep up with the useful links I'm finding? If so, click here. I'll write more about saving and sharing links in a future post.

Click here for information on a significant Internet Explorer 7 security vulnerability of which you will want to be aware. If you have Windows Automatic Updates activated you should already have the patch installed on your computer (it was released in mid-February), but you might wish to check nonetheless.

Spring Break Musings -Tuesday, March 27, 2007
By David Black :: 324 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Technology, Internet
This week is our Spring Break, so I've had the opportunity to explore new sites, ideas, and strategies for technology and education at a much more leisurely pace. However, after just a bit of time in doing some of this exploring, I'm overwhelmed by the volume of excellent content and stumped by how I'm going to find the time and energy to integrate so many new ideas into what I'm already doing as a teacher and in my work for our congregation. There is so much I would like to do, but there are also human limitations that each of us face. I guess the answer is the same as it has always been -- to focus on one or two things at a time that may have the greatest benefit for the largest number of people.

Handy Firefox Extension -Monday, March 26, 2007
By David Black :: 299 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Technology, Software, Internet
This looks to be a very handy Firefox browser extension (or add-on) for people (like me!) who scan certain news, technology, and education sites daily. Called Morning Coffee, this allows one to set up a regular routine of sites to visit. If you are an Internet power user, you might wish to give this extension a try.

Saturday Links List -Sunday, March 25, 2007
By David Black :: 316 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Technology, Links
Here is a links list of things I've come across recently on the Internet relating to technology and education:

  • Want a brief introduction to wikis and an explanation of their value in education. Click here for an online version of a conference presentation.
  • You have heard of YouTube. Now here is TeacherTube, with video clips of lessons being taught. Talk about extending the classroom! What would happen if a group of teachers in Lutheran schools put together a series of short lessons in video format to exchange with other schools. The experts in our buildings on different topics would have the opportunity to share their expertise with a larger audience. Lesson plans and discussion questions could be built along with the video. The possibilities are seemingly endless.
  • This may or may not be related strictly to education, but I've been enjoying exploring a little with LibraryThing. I guess the best way to describe this site is that it is a social networking site for book lovers, where one may find new books of interest, read reviews, and even share books you have enjoyed with others. For instance, here is a list of books tagged as those relating to educational technology. It is an interesting list. When will I find time to read all of those!
