A Series of Why's -Friday, December 29, 2006
By Jack Hoelz :: 249 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Technology, Education
In Daves port here he talks about a conversation he had with someone regarding the importance of keep educators informed about the "why" of using technology, not just the "hows".

I thought I would take that into a series of entries about the "whys" as we build the case every day for daily use of technology.

New Use for YouTube -Thursday, December 28, 2006
By David Black :: 283 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Technology, Internet
Click here for information on how YouTube was used to capture a criminal. What we are finding is that YouTube is moving beyond the realm of entertainment. In addition, there have been several recent articles about privacy concerns with the use of YouTube amongst the general public.

It appears that the discussion of how these tools are best used is just beginning. We are likely to see the fallout of the current use of these tools for years in the future. As Christians, we certainly need to be a part of the conversation so that we may best claim these tools for education, ministry, and productivity.

Pencil Labs? -Thursday, December 28, 2006
By David Black :: 510 Views :: 1 Comments :: :: Technology, Education
Came across this blog post and I was struck by the articulate defense of technology being a tool to drive the curriculum, not just a once-a-week activity, but something that needs to be efficiently utilized throughout the curriculum.

Why Podcast Your Sermon Audio? -Thursday, December 28, 2006
By Jack Hoelz :: 389 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Technology, Personal, Faith
I received an email today that really reaffirmed why I do what I do. It also reaffirmed how important it is that we all continue to reach outside the walls of our Church and use whatever we can to touch, or in this case, keep in touch...

Finding Meaning in the Middle -Wednesday, December 27, 2006
By Dan Czaplewski :: 381 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Personal, Faith
The week between Christmas and New Years is kind of a "muddle in the middle." For Christians, it can be a time to find meaning in the middle.

An Entry A Day? -Wednesday, December 27, 2006
By Jack Hoelz :: 269 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: General, Personal
I have challenged myself with making an entry a day for the rest of the year and into 2007. While many of the entries will be short, and some of them personal in nature, I would like to provide some content that is useful to other readers.

I could use some help as I develop a list of topics and categories. If you have any ideas or suggestions please comment on them for me here.

Key Skill #2 - Creative Problem Solving -Tuesday, December 26, 2006
By David Black :: 266 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Education

I hope you all had a very merry Christmas. I enjoyed the day here in Colorado, although we are warily eying another potentially major snow event.

This post addresses key skill number two for students as identified in the recent Time Magazine article about the future of education. Here is what I wrote in a previous post about this skill:

Skills in the 21st century that won't be outsourced to other countries are once that involve creativity and innovation. They will need to be creative problem solvers. In addition, cross-discipline connections will be important -- such as the connections between design, mathematics, science, and technology.

The Roar -Sunday, December 24, 2006
By Scott Bell :: 360 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: General, Personal, Devotional, Faith
It was a quiet night.  It might have been a Friday, or maybe a Wednesday, I don't really think the day of the week mattered much.  What mattered was that roar I heard from the crowd assembled.  That sometimes deafening...

Year of The Widget -Sunday, December 24, 2006
By David Black :: 203 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Technology, Software, Internet

I came across this article this morning about widgets and their growing use. With RSS technology and widgets such as the ones mentioned in this article, more and more people are allowing the web to come to them instead of intentionally visiting sites on the web. This got me to thinking about whether we should be creating widgets for ministry? What if those of us connected with technology and ministry created widgets for our school and church sites or other ministry content? Does this have a place in our church's future with technology and ministry?

Thoughts?

Vista Video Requirements -Saturday, December 23, 2006
By David Black :: 216 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Technology, Software, Hardware

Read here about some of the Microsoft Vista video requirements. They seem daunting, especially for schools. I cannot see upgading to Vista until purchasing new computers and after the cost of video components goes down.

Key Skill One -- Collaborating With Those In Other Cultures -Thursday, December 21, 2006
By David Black :: 220 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Technology, Internet, Education

I've shoveled off our 33 inches of snow (Yes -- 33 inches!) from the driveway, but I won't be able to get out of our subdivision until a plow comes through our circle, or at least until some folks with trucks and four-wheel drive vehicles carve enough ruts for the rest of us to utilize. In the meantime, here are a few thoughts on the recent Time Magazine article about the future of education.

"Why's" vs. "How To's" -Wednesday, December 20, 2006
By David Black :: 211 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Technology, Education

I'm sitting at home this morning with the wind and snow swirling outside. We have a snow day today -- our last day before Christmas break -- so break is beginning a little early. This gives me the opportunity to share some thoughts about 21st century schools and a conversation I had with a colleague yesterday.
