My name is Dave Black and I'm the Director of Technology Integration and Interim Principal at Shepherd of the Hills Christian School in Centennial, CO.

I have a heart and passion for technology and for educational ministry for our Lord Jesus Christ.

This blog is a natural result of these unique interests. I have 22 years of teaching experience in Lutheran schools, the last nine at my current school.

I seek to use the talents that God has given me to enhance His Kingdom in new, exciting, and creative ways, utilizing the technology tools with which we have been blessed to enhance ministry for Christ.

Here are several thoughts and reflections from the day:

  • I have ENORMOUS respect for the many excellent thinkers and practitioners found in the public system. In fact, I've added several of these educators to the list of folks I follow on Twitter so that I may continue to benefit from their ideas and wisdom.
  • Shepherd of the Hills and our 21st Century learning initiative are very much aligned with some of the cutting edge activities found in the public sector.
  • I personally would have a very difficult time teaching in a public school for the simple reason that I would not be able to talk about Jesus in the same way I do at Shepherd of the Hills. The discussions about Internet safety and computer ethics are very different without being able to bring in the law and gospel focus that our faith in the Lord provides. I believe that these discussions with students (and adults!) are much more meaningful when we can focus on pleasing God and building His Kingdom in everything we do.

All in all, it was an excellent day of learning, resource-building, and connecting with our excellent colleagues in the public system. Next year's conference has already been set for Saturday, February 20th at Loveland High School in Loveland, CO. Hope to see many of you there!
