and I'm the technology teacher at Shepherd of the Hills Christian School in Centennial, CO.

I have a heart and passion for technology and for educational ministry for our Lord Jesus Christ.

This blog is a natural result of these unique interests. I have 20 years of teaching experience in Lutheran schools, the last five exclusively as a technology teacher.

I seek to use the talents that God has given me to enhance His Kingdom in new, exciting, and creative ways, utilizing the technology tools with which we have been blessed to enhance ministry for Christ.

Firefox 3.0 - Tuesday, June 24, 2008

Already I have noticed that Firefox 3.0 is the fastest browser I have used, and in looking at my Task Manager, the browser is also using far less memory than previous incarnations of Firefox. The improved address bar has an organic nature to it. It learns which sites you access most often and offers them as possibilities, thereby cutting down on the amount of typing in the address bar. This feature works similarly to Google and its smart search feature. While I'm not a heavy technology programmer, Firefox claims to have a number of new security features, including malware and phishing protection. A whole host of other new features may be found here.

One issue I did find is that the some of my current Add-ons did not work with the latest version of the browser. However, most organizations who release these Add-ons are quickly coming out with new versions of their product for installation. Also, it was widely reported that the new Firefox 3 had a security hole upon its release. However, a similar hole was discovered in Microsoft Internet Explorer, and no doubt the hole will be patched quickly.

If you have been using Internet Explorer all these years, give Firefox a try. But be sure to keep Internet Explorer on your system. Some sites, especially those from Microsoft, will only work with Internet Explorer.

  • A Whole New Mind, by Daniel Pink: Actually, I'm re-reading this book (I may have to purchase a copy for myself instead of always using a library copy!)  Pink identifies six senses that are becoming essential for success in 21st century society. An excellent read for all educators and church leaders, even though it is not written from a Christian perspective.
  • Crazy '08, by Cait Murphy: A great study of the famous 1908 baseball season -- the last one where the Cubs won the World Series. Very much enjoying the description of the most memorable game in Cubs history -- the 4-2 victory at the New York Giants in the final National League game of that season.
