and I'm the technology teacher at Shepherd of the Hills Christian School in Centennial, CO.

I have a heart and passion for technology and for educational ministry for our Lord Jesus Christ.

This blog is a natural result of these unique interests. I have 20 years of teaching experience in Lutheran schools, the last five exclusively as a technology teacher.

I seek to use the talents that God has given me to enhance His Kingdom in new, exciting, and creative ways, utilizing the technology tools with which we have been blessed to enhance ministry for Christ.

This coming Sunday is “Good Shepherd Sunday.” When “Shepherd” is in the name of your church, you try not to pass this up. We will also dedicate a piece of religious art that has been added to our sanctuary. I’m really looking forward to Sunday and I hope that you are too.

What I wanted to write about is something that happened yesterday (Thursday). I drove the bus for grades Kindergarten through 2, so they could run 400 meters for the President’s physical fitness test. We don’t have a track on our property, but we do have a bus and we do have some good friends who let us use their track.

I take my task of driving a bus full of children very seriously, however you can’t help but overhear some conversations. Two Kindergarten boys were sitting together behind me and they were about as thrilled to be riding the bus as anything they had done all week. You would have thought this bus ride was the best thing that had ever happened to them.

It wasn’t just the bus ride that these two boys enjoyed; it was everything about the ride that thrilled them. Seeing the tall buildings on Federal Highway, buckling up their seat belts, and going over the speed bumps were all pure joy. It was a wonderful afternoon for them.

Life gets so complicated for adults. We have deadlines, responsibilities, and far too much to do in too little time. I wish I could just turn it off some times and experience life like a Kindergartener. I wish that an ice cream cone could fulfill my deepest desire and meet all my needs in Maslow’s hierarchy.

I think the connection between this slice of my life and the Good Shepherd is that I need to remember that I am a sheep and enjoy my life as a part of the Shepherd’s flock more. He leads and I follow; He cares for me and I find joy in the gift of each new day; He protects and I rest in His safety.

Just be a sheep today! It can be a lot of fun.

  • A Whole New Mind, by Daniel Pink: Actually, I'm re-reading this book (I may have to purchase a copy for myself instead of always using a library copy!)  Pink identifies six senses that are becoming essential for success in 21st century society. An excellent read for all educators and church leaders, even though it is not written from a Christian perspective.
  • Crazy '08, by Cait Murphy: A great study of the famous 1908 baseball season -- the last one where the Cubs won the World Series. Very much enjoying the description of the most memorable game in Cubs history -- the 4-2 victory at the New York Giants in the final National League game of that season.
