The conversation was with someone who has given many presentations on technology throughout the various districts of the LCMS. He said that the presentations that receive the most positive reaction from other teachers are not those who show them how to "do things" with technology, but rather those that build the case for the fact that technology and its applications are not only essential for preparing students for their future, but also for keeping Lutheran schools relevant in the 21st century educational world.
To summarize, we should be talking more about the "why's" of technology -- why we need technology in our schools, why they are important for the future of Lutheran schools and for ministry and the sharing of the Gospel, why we all need to utilize technology to change our approach to education to better meet the needs of our students and their families. The "how to's" can be picked up in so many places -- through training seminars, public library courses, etc. But the "why's" need to come from anyone who cares about the future of Lutheran education.
Thoughts?
