and I'm the technology teacher at Shepherd of the Hills Christian School in Centennial, CO.

I have a heart and passion for technology and for educational ministry for our Lord Jesus Christ.

This blog is a natural result of these unique interests. I have 20 years of teaching experience in Lutheran schools, the last five exclusively as a technology teacher.

I seek to use the talents that God has given me to enhance His Kingdom in new, exciting, and creative ways, utilizing the technology tools with which we have been blessed to enhance ministry for Christ.

Here is a short list of some less known but very useful keyboard shortcuts. Being a creature of habit, I haven't forced myself to use shortcuts as much as I should.

First off.....my apologies for not having posted over the past week. I've had a lot of work at school that really needed my attention. I'll try to do a better job of being consistent with my posts now that some of that is behind me.

Secondly, I ran across a very intersting article today created by an educational technology specialist entitled "Have You Googled Yourself?" In this article, Steve Dembo argues that not only should we teach ourselves and our students not to add quotes, pictures, or other information to the Internet that we don't want other people to see (since these items seem to last forever on the Internet), but that we should also actively monitor our Google profile and work to make it as flattering as possible, especially since so many employers are checking online sources when making human resource decision.

Dennis at Tech4Teachers talks about digital storytelling in this post. He visited a retired aircraft carrier with his 96 year old grandfather, recording his impressions during the visit. Since I've met his grandfather on several occasions, I followed these recollections more closely than the casual observer.

For most of us, email has become both a blessing and a burden. I haven't done a good job of cleaning out my inbox, allowing emails to accumulate there for months, even years. Thankfully, I'm becoming much more adept in managing email in a way that works for me.

Perhaps you have seen a recent increase in your email inbox of messages saying that you have been sent an e-card greeting. Unfortunately, these hoaxes have the potential to lure unsuspecting users into downloading some nasty spyware. See this article for more information.

  • A Whole New Mind, by Daniel Pink: Actually, I'm re-reading this book (I may have to purchase a copy for myself instead of always using a library copy!)  Pink identifies six senses that are becoming essential for success in 21st century society. An excellent read for all educators and church leaders, even though it is not written from a Christian perspective.
  • Crazy '08, by Cait Murphy: A great study of the famous 1908 baseball season -- the last one where the Cubs won the World Series. Very much enjoying the description of the most memorable game in Cubs history -- the 4-2 victory at the New York Giants in the final National League game of that season.
