and I'm the technology teacher at Shepherd of the Hills Christian School in Centennial, CO.

I have a heart and passion for technology and for educational ministry for our Lord Jesus Christ.

This blog is a natural result of these unique interests. I have 20 years of teaching experience in Lutheran schools, the last five exclusively as a technology teacher.

I seek to use the talents that God has given me to enhance His Kingdom in new, exciting, and creative ways, utilizing the technology tools with which we have been blessed to enhance ministry for Christ.

I see where the Library of Congress now has RSS feeds with updates on its online collections. This is a long overdue connection for someone like me who may not always remember to take the time to visit the site and view their new material. I will definitely be subscribing to several of these feeds.

Came across this blog post and I was struck by the articulate defense of technology being a tool to drive the curriculum, not just a once-a-week activity, but something that needs to be efficiently utilized throughout the curriculum.

I hope you all had a very merry Christmas. I enjoyed the day here in Colorado, although we are warily eying another potentially major snow event.

This post addresses key skill number two for students as identified in the recent Time Magazine article about the future of education. Here is what I wrote in a previous post about this skill:

Skills in the 21st century that won't be outsourced to other countries are once that involve creativity and innovation. They will need to be creative problem solvers. In addition, cross-discipline connections will be important -- such as the connections between design, mathematics, science, and technology.

I've shoveled off our 33 inches of snow (Yes -- 33 inches!) from the driveway, but I won't be able to get out of our subdivision until a plow comes through our circle, or at least until some folks with trucks and four-wheel drive vehicles carve enough ruts for the rest of us to utilize. In the meantime, here are a few thoughts on the recent Time Magazine article about the future of education.

I'm sitting at home this morning with the wind and snow swirling outside. We have a snow day today -- our last day before Christmas break -- so break is beginning a little early. This gives me the opportunity to share some thoughts about 21st century schools and a conversation I had with a colleague yesterday.

  • A Whole New Mind, by Daniel Pink: Actually, I'm re-reading this book (I may have to purchase a copy for myself instead of always using a library copy!)  Pink identifies six senses that are becoming essential for success in 21st century society. An excellent read for all educators and church leaders, even though it is not written from a Christian perspective.
  • Crazy '08, by Cait Murphy: A great study of the famous 1908 baseball season -- the last one where the Cubs won the World Series. Very much enjoying the description of the most memorable game in Cubs history -- the 4-2 victory at the New York Giants in the final National League game of that season.
